Before your next visit to Coronet Peak ski resort check out the trail map, make the most from your visit by pre planning what parts of the resort you want to explore. If you are a beginner, take a look at what parts of the resort are graded green for you. Coronet Peak ski resort is famous for offering beginner and green runs from the summit to the base area.

Intermediate riders will find intermediate blue ski runs covering majority of the snow resort and specifically the far right of the resort where you will find the Greengates Express chairlift. Advanced and expert riders will find challenging terrain scattered all over the resort and after a good storm the back bowls off the summit call expert riders by name.  

Coronet Peak Ski Runs & Trails

With a base altitude of 1187m (3894 ft) and a summit altitude of 1649m (5410 ft) Coronet Peak ski resort offers a vertical drop of 462m (1515 ft) which is great stats for what could be seen as a local mountain. Rising up above the picturesque Queenstown on a clear day the views that can be absorbed from any run at Coronet Peak are world class.  

Offering up 25% of the resort to beginner runs this is a fantastic place for kids to learn and newbies to snow to get their first tracks. Once beginners have mastered the surface lifts they can graduate to the Meadows Express quad chair which rises half way up the resort and has great open and smooth green runs back to base. For the beginner looking for a challenge a unique part of Coronet Peak ski resort is that they have a smooth green run which goes right from the summit of 1649m down to the village and offers sweeping views of the surrounding mountain range.  

45% of the terrain is set out for intermediates and this terrain is quite varied to keep all riders across the intermediate spectrum happy and challenged all day. Coronet Peak ski resort has great natural terrain and the grooming team do a stellar job to keep all the runs in tip top shape. There are long drawn out fresh blue runs where speed and sharp edges can really be pushed and then also for intermediate free riders there is some intricate blue runs which can be found to the left side of the Greengates Express six pack chair.  

Any advanced or expert rider is still going to have a great time at Coronet Peak ski resort however its not as challenging as some of the other resorts which can be found in the region. 30% of the terrain is marked as advanced and expert and there are some lengthy advanced runs and some short expert runs. To the right side of the Coronet Express is a plethora of advanced runs with dips, chutes and gullies. Expert riders who are really looking for a challenge should head right as soon as they get off the Coronet Express and check out the Back Bowls. Numerous expert runs head down this face and connect back up half way down the mountain.

Coronet Peak Night Skiing / Snowboarding

What really sets Coronet Peak ski resort apart from the rest of the resorts in the region is the night skiing. From the summit of the resort down to the base there are runs which are lit completely and offer this unique experience each Wednesday and Friday evening from 4pm – 9pm in July and August. Night skiing is included in the normal lift pass on these days and also includes green runs, blue runs and red/black advanced runs.  

There are limited places in the world where you can cut turns on a black run under lights with sweeping views whilst the sun sets over the mountain range and the city lights of Queenstown begin to shine.
