Mt Bachelor

Mt Bachelor in Oregon is home to the largest ski resort in the Pacific Northwest as well as being the 6th largest ski resort in North America. Towering high above the Oregon plains Mt Bachelor juts into the skyline and looks rather lonely by itself, which is exactly how the name was given based on being separated from the nearest mountains named the Three Sisters.

On the slopes of this dormant stratovolcano, you will find some of the most unique riding which pays homage to the incredible surf culture the pacific coast is globally known for. Mt Bachelor keeps its profile super low when compared to other major resorts and many people outside of the western USA would not have even heard of the resort.

The biggest contributor to the low profile is that it’s not classified as a destination resort and the mountain does not have many of the facilities you would find at the likes of Vail or Deer Valley. With no on mountain accommodation available the ski resort relies on day visitors who are mostly coming up from Bend, OR and the surrounding areas. Mt Bachelor in Oregon doesn’t even refer to their mountain playground as a resort and that’s exactly how their locals prefer it.

Thanks to the 460+ inches of average snowfall Mt Bachelor in Oregon the mountain typically opens in late November to early December and continues operations all the way through to May, sometimes beyond. Located in the eastern Cascades and thanks to the southern proximity of the mountain the snow remains drier and there is less rain than the other resorts in the Pacific Northwest which results in a better snow quality and less Cascade concrete

Mt Bachelor in Oregon is a riders mountain packed full of natural halfpipes which are carved out by lava flows, extreme gladed riding on the lower aspects and high alpine bowls which hold powder long after the storms. One of our favourite features is the snow ghost that appear after a really strong storm, its like riding through a desolate landscape on another planet as there are no surrounding mountains in your view whilst you glide past ice and snow covered trees.
