Before your next visit to Thredbo ski resort check out the trail map, this resort is huge so you might want to plan your day to get the best experience.

If you are a beginner, take a look at what parts of the resort are graded green for you, Thredbo Alpine Resort has a dedicated Beginner and Family zone called Friday Flat. Intermediate riders are spoilt for choice and blue runs cover majority of this resort and include many of Australia’s longest ski runs. Advanced riders will find the most challenging terrain off the side of Kosciuszko Express quad chairlift and in the Golf Course bowl which connects back with the famous Funnel Web ski run.

Thredbo Ski Runs & Trails

With a base altitude of 1365m (4478 ft) and a summit altitude of 2037m (6683 ft) Thredbo offers a vertical drop of 672m (2205 ft) offering Australia’s longest vertical drop of any resort and is situated above the snowline. To get the seasons going and to maintain the base throughout the season Thredbo has extensive snow making capabilities which covers a large portion of the lower part of the resort. Over 330 snow guns and machines get pumping when the conditions are right.

Friday Flat is a dedicated beginner area found to the left of the Thredbo alpine village, it’s the perfect place to learn how to ride or for your children to get their first experience on ski’s or a snowboard with the dedicated Thredbo Ski School. They have gentle slopes and an easy to ride quad chair with a wide-open beginner slope.

To add to the 16% of the mountain for beginners, a short trip up the new Merritts Gondola will take confident newbies to the Cruiser area where some more green runs can be found higher in the resort.

Thredbo really is a resort well suited for intermediate riders, a whopping 67% of the resort is classified as intermediate terrain and incredible blue runs can be found all over the resort. Thredbo has Australia’s 5 longest trails, and these are a mix of green and blue runs, any intermediate will love the leg burning challenge these runs create.

On a good powder day, the high alpine and lower tress area’s found in Central Spur is the place to be for consistent laps and powder refills on the T-Bars.

To the right-hand side of the village off the Kosciuszko Express quad chair is a plethora of challenging black runs for advanced and expert riders. For those wanting more of a challenge they can take the Karels T Bar up to the highest lifted point, give the community bell a ring (a must when visiting Thredbo) and then make their way down the Funnel Web run. A 3.2km black run which takes riders back down to the base of the Kosciuszko Express.

For advanced riders wanting to push their limits they can explore the Golf Course Bowl, an ungroomed powder paradise with no marked runs which offers endless hollering after a good storm.
