The Remarkables Trail Map

Before your next visit to The Remarkables ski resort check out the trail map, this large ski resort will require at least two days to complete every ski run.

If you are a beginner, take a look at what parts of the resort are graded green for you. The centre of the ski resort has a dedicated learning area before offering green runs from the top of two chairlifts.

Intermediate riders will find intermediate blue ski runs covering majority of the snow resort and specifically the terrain in the Sugar Bowl and Curvey Basin region. Advanced and expert riders will find the most challenging terrain on the whole right side of the ski resort where red and black diamond ski runs make their way through chutes into high alpine bowls filled with fluffy snow.

The Remarkables Ski Runs & Trails

With a base altitude of 1610m (5282 ft) and a summit altitude of 1943m (6374 ft) The Remarkables ski resort offers a vertical drop of 357m (1515 ft) which is great stats for what could be seen as a local mountain. Rising up above the picturesque Queenstown and sitting below the strong peak of Double Cone and resort is a collection of bowls and basins that all lead back to the same base area.

Offering up 30% of the resort to beginner runs this is a fantastic place for kids to learn and newbies to snow to get their first tracks and The Remarkables has the highest amount of beginner and green runs available in Queenstown.

Once beginners have mastered the surface lifts they can graduate to the Alta Quad Chair which rises half way up the resort and has great open and smooth green runs back to base. For the beginner looking for a challenge can elevate themselves to the Sugar Bowl Express six pack chair and ride the perfectly groomed Casterway green run which guides them back down to the base.

A whopping 40% of the terrain is set out for intermediates and this terrain is quite varied to keep all riders across the intermediate spectrum happy and challenged all day. The Remarkables resort is unique with its opened bowls and chairs that rise to the top of each bowl. Intermediates will likely spend their whole day lapping the Curvey Basin six pack chair which takes riders up to 1900m and has great blue runs which then connect to a plethora of green runs.

Over on the Sugar Bowl Express chair riders looking for some leg burn can head left as they exit the chair and take Serpentine all the way as it flows down and then goes under the chair and connect with Crossfall before coming back to base. Any intermediate looking to step up to a challenge can head over to the Shadow Basin Quad where runs like Calypso and Mid Steeps provide more advance challenges. These runs are surrounded by advanced and expert terrain so it’s a great chair for progression.

Any advanced or expert rider is still going to have a great time at The Remarkables with 10% of runs set as advanced and 20% carved out as expert, yes 20% means 1 in every 5 runs at the Remarkables is classified as Expert territory. Any rider who falls into this category is likely to spend most of their days lapping the Shadow Basin Quad as this takes riders to the summit of the resort at 1943m. in each direction from this chair there is advanced and expert runs as well as access gates to the most challenging terrain high above Lake Alta. With names like Elevator and Escalator one could be excused for thinking these runs are nearly vertical and we think it’s a no fall zone.

Heading right as you get off the Shadow Basin chair and sliding as far right as possible on The Highway will take riders to an area known as Outward Bound. This expert area is packed with open bowls and gullies which on a powder day is the place to be. Lapping this area is a bit tough due to the runs heading down to the car parks and riders having to jump on a bus to get back to the base area.
